Halakhah for Sanhedrin 41:2

וצדוק גופיה מנלן דתניא רבי אומר (ויקרא כד, ט) והיתה לאהרן ולבניו מחצה לאהרן ומחצה לבניו:

this means, half belonged toAaron and half to his sons.<br> &nbsp; &nbsp; <b><i>MISHNAH</i></b>. <font>NEITHER SHALL HE MULTIPLY WIVES TOHIMSELF.</font><span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Deut. XVII, 17. ');"><sup>3</sup></span> — ONLY <font>EIGHTEEN.</font>R. JUDAH SAID: <font>HE MAY HAVE MORE</font>, PROVIDED THEY DO NOT TURN AWAY HISHEART. <font>R. SIMEON SAID: HE MUST NOT MARRY EVEN ONE WHO MAY TURN AWAY HIS HEART.</font><font>WHY THEN IS IT WRITTEN, NEITHER SHALL HE MULTIPLY WIVES TOHIMSELF?</font><span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Ibid. From which it might be inferred that he may marry a lesser number even if they should corrupt him. ');"><sup>4</sup></span>

From the laws of the commandments is that which they, may their memory be blessed, said (Sanhedrin 21a) that it is permitted to marry up until eighteen wives, but not more - and even if they are like Avigail, who was righteous, alacritous and good. [This] and the rest of its details are in the second chapter of Sanhedrin. And this is from the commandments which are only upon the king.
