תנא לא מפיבשת שמו אלא איש בשת שמו ולמה נקרא שמו מפיבשת שהיה מבייש פני דוד בהלכה לפיכך זכה דוד ויצא ממנו כלאב

It has been taught: His name was not Mephibosheth but Ishbosheth. Why, then, was he called Mephibosheth? Because he used to put David to shame on questions of Halakah. On that account David merited that Chileab should issue from him;
